She's a She!!!!
I'll Admit I'm Impatient...
Ok. Alright. I'm only 16 1/2 weeks pregnant, but I just couldn't help myself. My doctor told me at my last check up that our next ultrasound would be scheduled for 20 weeks. 20 weeks? That's nearly a month away. Last week, upon the suggestion of my mom (thanks, mom...), my impatience grew thin. I needed, desperately, to know the sex of my baby. So, Saturday morning, Hubby and I climbed in the Mom-Mobile and visited one of those 3-d ultrasound get-ups. The store was small, but littered with baby pictures, stuffed bears and ultrasound memorabilia.
And wouldn't you know it, my first baby will be a beautiful little girl (who apparently loves to suck her little developing thumb) :)
Almost immediately after the news broke, it hit both Hubby and I that we have been planning for a boy for the last 4 months or, if we're being honest, we've been planning for a boy for the last 5 years or so. This means that our entire imaginary family life has been traded from soccer and video games to princesses and Barbies.
But really, it means our perfectly planned name for our son will have to wait until the next round (hopefully) and we get to start fresh deciding on a name for our little lady.
But What's in a Name?
I don't know if I've ever told my mom this, but she did a bang-up job choosing my name. The name isn't super common, sounds sort of old fashioned and, maybe it's my own narcissism, but it evokes the assumption that the person carrying that name is thought provoking, artistic and caring. Since I was a child, I've always felt the name she chose for me perfectly captures who I am.
These are the requirements for me now in choosing a name for my daughter. I don't understand many of the "trends" these days and refuse to settle for a name that merely sounds pretty. The name should describe a girl who is adventurous, smart, compassionate and beautiful (both inside and out). I want her to grow up thinking that she totally gets her name and her name totally gets her.
In short, we have a lot to do now, but we couldn't be more thrilled to welcome a baby girl into our lives. At least we'll be able to design her kick-ass nursery now :)
As Hubby puts it, she already has him wrapped around her little finger.
All our love,
J and J
